Homer R. Zion, Jr., CPA - Managing Partner

Homer is a founding partner of ZSA and holds a B.B.A in Accounting from Kent State University. He began his career with a regional accounting firm in Northeast Ohio in 1980, where he progressed from staff assistant to manager during his nine-year tenure. From 1988, until the founding of Zion, Synek and Associates in 1991, Homer was V.P. of Finance for an industrial metals commodities broker and dealer and started a metals distribution business. As V. P. of Finance, Homer gained a significant amount of experience in managing and operating private businesses. That experience including the previous aspects of public accounting, have served Homer well as a business and tax consultant in servicing the needs of small business owners.

Homer and his wife reside in Independence where he is an active member of his church, past Independence Kiwanis member, and has volunteered his time over the years coaching baseball and assisting the Independence High School music program where his children have been involved. He and his wife Debbie are parents of four. Kristen, Emily, Nathan and Geoffrey have all completed college with several receiving Masters Degrees.

In late 2014, Homer was inducted into the Bluecoats, Inc. of Cuyahoga County to serve those families of members of safety forces who lose their lives in the line of duty.

Kenn Synek

Kenn M. Synek, CPA, CVA - Partner

Kenn has been helping clients with their audit, tax and accounting needs for over 25 years. After earning his accounting degree from Cleveland State University, Kenn began his career as a staff accountant/auditor, and eventually became manager of the Firm’s audit practice. Along the way, he obtained a Master of Taxation degree from the University of Akron, and became a trusted advisor to his many clients. Kenn joined ZSA in 1998 and became a partner in 2001. He currently leads the Firm's accounting and auditing practice.

In addition to being a CPA, Kenn is also a Certified Valuation Analyst. In his work as a CVA, Kenn draws upon his many years of experience as an auditor and tax accountant to help clients understand what their company is truly worth.

Community service and volunteerism are an investment in our community, and Kenn has been actively involved in several civic and charitable organizations. He served in leadership positions as treasurer of several local and national civic and nonprofit organizations, including the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America and the Independence Stadium Foundation. He was also Wampum Bearer for Cuyahoga Valley Local Longhouse and National Longhouse Ltd., a leading parent/child relationship development program rooted in Native American traditions. In 2011, Kenn was elected by the people of the City of Independence to serve a four year term as a member of the Board of Education of the Independence Local School District. Kenn was re-elected to serve an additional four year term in 2015.

Debbie Zion?

Noelle L. Beck

Noelle earned her Bachelor’s degree in accounting and minor in French from Walsh University in 2015. Her experience includes interning in the accounts payable department at a company in North Canton and interning in the tax department at a firm in Wooster. She is currently studying for her CPA.

Douglas O. Bury, CPA

Douglas O. Bury, CPA

Doug brings more than eight years in diverse tax, financial, and business consulting experience to his role as a manager at Zion, Synek & Associates. His responsibilities include conducting, supervising, and reviewing annual audits as well as handling the many tax needs of a wide array of clients. Doug also has extensive experience in financial, business, and tax planning that help businesses focus on their goals. Doug received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting from Central Michigan University and his Master’s in Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Jeremy Creamer

Jeremy D. Creamer, CPA

Jeremy earned his Bachelor in Science Degree in Business Administration from Kent State University with a emphasis in accounting & a minor in information systems. He earned his Masters of Science in Accounting from Kent State University. Jeremy served two tax accounting internships focusing on tax preparation and various other accounting duties.

Jeremy resides in North Royalton.

Lindsey M. Epling, Client Service Manager

Lindsey M. Epling

Lindsey earned her Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Walsh University in 2013. She served two years as a tax accounting intern at a small firm in Norton, Ohio and she also worked as a Staff Accountant for a firm in downtown Cleveland prior to joining ZSA.

Lindsey resides in North Royalton and also spends her time with family in Doylestown.

Thomas J. Gottlieb, CPA

Thomas J. Gottlieb, CPA

Tom earned his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Kent State University in 1985 and earned his CPA license in 1987. Prior to joining ZSA, Tom worked as a CPA in northern Ohio providing accounting and tax services to charitable organizations and to businesses in the manufacturing, construction and services industries. Tom is active in our community and serves on the Board of Directors of the Firelands Symphony Orchestra.

Tom and his wife Kathy reside in Avon Lake.

Lynn M. Holler, Client Service Manager

Lynn M. Holler

Lynn has worked in the accounting field for over 20 years, and she joined ZSA in 2000. Prior to joining our Firm, she spent ten years working as an administrative assistant and tax preparer for a financial advisory Firm specializing in financial services for high net worth individuals. Lynn has received a certificate in tax preparation and specializes in providing tax and accounting services for small businesses.

Lynn resides in Parma with her daughter.

Barbara L. Martin, Firm Administrator

Barbara L. Martin

Barbara has been with ZSA as an administrator since 2007. She joined our team, after working as an administrative assistant for an accounting Firm in Southern Utah. Prior to that, Barbara worked in property management for numerous years. Barbara has three children, and one grandchild.

Barbara resides with her family in Elyria.

Shawn J. Mendham, CPA

Shawn J. Mendham, CPA

Shawn has 15 years of experience in tax and business compliance and planning. He is responsible for planning and supervising individual, partnership, corporate, trust and estate engagements. In addition, he has extensive experience in accounting and auditing of closely held businesses and is a trusted advisor to his clients. Shawn received his B.A. in Accounting from Mount Union College and earned his CPA designation in 2001. Prior to joining ZSA, Shawn spent three years as a senior accountant with a regional public accounting firm that specialized in high net worth individuals.

Shawn resides in Wadsworth with his daughter Reagan.

Leslie J. Oyler, CPA

Leslie J. Oyler, CPA

Leslie earned her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Business Administration from Baldwin-Wallace University. She obtained her CPA designation in 2013. Prior to joining ZSA, she was a staff auditor at a large regional firm and a financial reporting accountant at a local hospital system.

Leslie resides in Broadview Heights with her husband and son, Garrett.

Jeff Steiger, Client Service Manager

Jeff Steiger

Jeff earned his Bachelor in Business Administration from Ohio University with a focus in accounting and finance. He interned with our team part-time while finishing his degree, and became a full-time member of the team following graduation. Jeff is currently working towards earning his CPA certification.

Jeff resides in Stow.

Debbie Zion?

Debbie Zion

Debbie officially joined the ZSA team in 1998 as the Firm’s accountant, although she has been an integral part of the team since the Firm’s inception in 1991. She is responsible for the administration of the company’s employee benefit plans, payroll and accounts payable. Debbie and her husband Homer reside in Independence.
